Medusa Expanse- Sanctuary System

"I hate these snoop and scoot missions"

"With you, they're scout and pout missions"

"Cut the chatter Talons. Talon 4 it's your show"

"Copy Talon lead. Deploying sensor pods" Talon 4 replied, then deployed the prototype sensor pods mounted on the hardpoints of her sparrow, Stargazer. The pilot, Lt. Katja "Kat" Tasvanni was as unusual as her fighter's name. To most, she looked like an anthro Przewalski's horse, which was odd enough, however Kat was actually an uplifted horse, making her current role an even more impressive achievement.

Katja deployed the sensors with a thought, the pods extending behind her craft, pulling in the ambient system's signals. While they had their own encryption cracking code, a big limitation of them was that while deployed, the ship they were on was restricted to straight, slow movements as to not contaminate the data the pods gathered, which was less than ideal....

"Contacts! Direct front, they're turning to engage, lead!"

"Kat, drop the pods, Talons break!"

Katja cut the pods, calling out to her wingmen "5, 6 on me!" the two pilots in her wing acknowledging and forming on her as their attackers closed on them.

"Talon 2, one on you break left!" "Talon 9, need help, can't shake--" "Talon nine is gone, Talon 7 need assistance!"

"Talon 5, scratch one, got him again!"

"Toji stop treating this like a ga-" Kat didn't get to finish her sentence, her instruments flashed out, and a sudden painful jolt making her cry out as everything went black.
A moment later, the cockpit seal around her cracked open, spilling light from the simulator bay where she and the rest of Talon squadron were. "Equus, the hell was that?!" she exclaimed, pulling off her suit's helmet.
"You too? Hell of a jolt that was, huh?" Came the reply. Talon 9, "Doc" James was, straddling his sim and the walkway just below it.
"No kidding, that hurt! Who rigged them to do that?!" Katja noticed her fellow squadmates, both Talons and the Opfor for this little training exercise seemed to have a similar experience when they were shot, leaving a few sore backsides. They'd been simming for most of the day, though this was the last scheduled for the day. She had to get out of her sim fast though, she knew what was coming in a few moments.

Sure enough, once some more had started opening, she heard a familiar roar. "Imma bout to kick your ass, Toji!" Ray "Temper" Jones, Talon 11. Wasn't hard to see where his callsign had come from, the man had the shortest fuse of anyone she knew. At 6'4" with the muscle to match, he almost didn't fit into the Sparrow's cockpit. Frankly she didn't know how he'd not gone for the ground forces rather than a pilot.

She was already sprinting to get between Temper and his intended target, her hooves sounding off the floor, even in her issue boots. His target was her wingman, Talon 5. Toji "Lizard" Altermann. Lizard, because he was obsessed with this long running series, something to do with giant monsters fighting each other, the main one being some kind of giant lizard. Katja didn't really know much about it, and at the moment, she didn't care. Toji's sim was opening, and he wasn't going to be able to get out before Ray got to him. Fortunatly, she needent have worried.

"Corporal, another step and i'll have you scrubbing the hanger for the next month!" shouted a voice. Talon lead. Major Hannah "Spitfire" Calcyon. At least Ray wasn't stupid enough to disobey that command. He came to an abrupt stop, as did Kat, who was at the scaffolding of Toji's sim.

Seeing the immediate problem resolved, Major Calcyon continued. "Now that that's settled, debreifing in 5 Talons." she finished, then turned to walk off toward Talons squad room.

Katja sighed, waiting for Toji to exit his sim.
"Did I miss something?" He asked, innocently. Katja gave him a look, turning her muzzle a bit to the side to focus both her blue eyes on him, her ears flattened to her head in a sign of irritation.

"Do you have to antagonize him, Toji?" Kat replied.

"Can't help it if he makes himself obvious, Lieutenant!" came the response.

"Yes, and i'd rather not have to try to separate you two every time you want to antagonize Ray" Kat replied, not giving in.

"Ok, ok, i'll leave him alone for a while"

Kat gave a deliberate snort, but even she knew that was the best she was likely to get from Toji.
"Fine, but let's move, we don't need to be late for debriefing now"

An hour later...

Katja turned the corner, her uncovered hooves echoing softly off the ground underneath her. Her and Seara's shared home coming into view. While they weren't deployed, the pair's home was close enough to base that Katja preferred to walk. Her Geist triggered the door as she approached, the scanner being linked to her implant, it opened for her.
