Medusa Expanse - Sirris II, Sanctuary System
Guardian Hospital, Obsidian City
Jay stirred, consciousness slowly returning to the soldier, the first thing coming to mind was how he felt, which was currently, like shit. He recogonized the signs of long term stasis, confusing him for a moment, then he remembered the accident. Ok, that would explain some things, likely he was in a hospital and the disorientation that comes with having been Animused. Still, the signs of stasis sickness he couldn't figure, a cloned body wouldn't have been in stasis long....
He realized that the background noise wasn't just that, someone was calling his name.
"....Sir? Jay, can you hear me?" He finally made out as he concentrated on the voice. Strangely, it seemed his ears had.....turned toward the source? How?
"Yes....I hear you." He replied, his own voice sounding rough, like it hadn't been used for a long time.
"Good. Seems you're responding well, even with the extra acclimation time. Can you see?" Came the reply, the voice he now recogonized as belonging to one Doctor Arianna Damouni, head neurologist and one of the overseers of all Animus transfers, as well as monitoring the well being of the NDC's various Fenrir clones, Jay's long term relationship with one of them in particular being the reason he knew the doctor. Speaking of Armora, Jay felt a pang of guilt for likely putting her through some emotional hell while he was hospitalized. Hopefully he'd be able to smooth things over with her soon.
He opened his eyes, blinking them in the strong light, his geist implant coming online, though something was off, it seemed he had something on his face? He turned his head toward the Doctor's voice, taking in the anthro horsewoman's form. "Yeah, though I think my geist might be off. I've got some kind of blockage directly in front of my face."
He watched Doctor Damouni consult the display next to her, as well as he own implant before she replied. "No Jay, that's not a glitch, your seeing that right." She held up a hand, forestalling his question. "Jay listen, you remember what happened, right?" At his nod Arianna continued. "You were hurt far worse in the crash, Jay, to the point where your geist was in danger of failing. There wasn't time to generate a clone for you, so we had to put you into one of the bodies in stasis. As it was different than your original one, you were out for a few weeks to get acclimated to it, though it appears you're adapting rather well to it so far."
"Different?" Jay asked, raising his left arm to look. His eyes first took in the undersuit his new body was wearing, the reason for the stasis sickness becoming clear. While it was the same black color as current NDC revenant undersuits, it was noticeably older, from before the exodus, from the old empire. No wonder he felt like this, he'd been put into one of the bodies held in stasis from before exodus! But why- his thought was interrupted when he noticed his uncovered hand, he'd originally thought it was a reflection of light, but no, that was very much a hand. His hand, as he slowly made a fist with it, the golden colored short fur and hard fingertips looking very similar in shape to Arianna's own. Jay brought his arm closer to his face, unexpectedly bouncing it off his nose? The hell? Why was it so damn long?! He brough his right hand up, feeling what was not just a nose, but a very equine muzzle. His hands continued, feeling his pointed ears, mounted high on his head, he then raised it, looking down at where his feet would be, instead seeing a pair of hooves. His hooves. "What the...?"
Arianna noted the soldier checking out his new body. "Yeah, it'll take you a bit to get used to it, Jay. You're on medical leave until further notice, so you have some time yet."
Jay shook his head, somewhat bewildered at the sudden (to him) change. "Gods, i'm not this color all over am I?!"
Arianna managed to hold back a laugh. "Well, yes, you are. Why do you ask?"
"Do you know how hard it is to blend in being gold?!"
"No. But it appears you'll have to figure that out yourself, Jay. Given what I know about you, you should figure it out pretty quick! Meanwhile, your geist appears fine, no signs of rejection, so we should be able to move you from ICU, though you'll still be in the hospital for at least another week. I'll check in with you again tommorow morning. For now, i'd suggest focusing on getting used to you new body" Arianna finished, getting to her hooves and walking out of the sectioned room.
